Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor with a private practice out of Hamilton, Ontario, but working primarily virtually. Together with my business partner, we run our practice while training new therapists and students in Psychotherapy through our business, Roots in Wellness. My focus in my practice is on the LGBTQ+ community, and I specialize in working with the transgender community, helping them navigate the exploration, coming out, and transition processes.

I have an occupational background in business, acting as the Program Director for a large HVAC Leasing company for over 5 years. This position provided me with a wealth of experience in training, human resources, policy and procedures, business practices, and project management. My experience in this field combined with my experience running my own business has instilled in me a wealth of knowledge in the business sector.

I am also the Chair of the Professional Development Committee for the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP), and have been a part of their board of directors for over three years. I have been involved in Public Policy as well as Professional Development during my time there, which has provided me with insight into mental health policies in Ontario. My time with Professional Development means that I’ve spent a great deal of time reviewing, vetting, and evaluating mental health workshops, allowing me to gain additional knowledge and insight into what goes into making an educational program effective and engaging.

Workshop

Members of the LGBTQ + community fear being categorised or pathologized whenever they seek clinical care. Therapists and mental health professionals sometimes report become fearful of working therapeutically with LGBTQ+ clients in case they’re accused of practising conversion therapy. The result is LGBTQ+ people don’t then get the care they need and deserve. We will explore practising affirming care while being open to working with clients mental- health challenges.
